Chinese Food Tour

Learn about authentic Cantonese food, language and culture, on a tour run by Dubliner Alice Chau Ginguene in Dublin 2 on Saturday 25 November.

Over 3 hours, she’ll take a group of 12 people to taste some of the Cantonese food Dublin has to offer, while explaining the history and culture behind it, and introducing a bit of the language too. Here’s the plan:

12:00 Duck Restaurant on Fade Street – You’ll learn what Hong Kong-style BBQ is, and how it’s cooked, and you’ll eat some.

13:00 Good World Restaurant on South George’s Street – You’ll learn about the history and etiquette of the traditional Cantonese dim sum lunch (aka Yum Chai), while eating one.

14:00 Asia Market on Drury Street – Alice will give you a tour of this Asian supermarket, introducing you to some ingredients you might not be familiar with.

14:45 Asia Market – At the market, you’ll taste some Hong Kong-style street food, and go away with goodie bags.

15:15 Tour ends

The tour costs €50 per person, which includes Alice’s tour, plus all the food you’ll eat, and the goodie bag from the Asia market.

Alice, who has lived in Dublin for the past 10 years, is from Hong Kong and she is a proud Cantonese girl through and through, whose ancestry can be traced back to China’s Guangdong (Canton) province for many generations.

She has been studying and working in Europe for 15 years, has a BA in European Studies and is fluent in English, Cantonese, French and Mandarin. In true East-meets-West manner, she married a French national and is now a mother of an Eurasian boy. She is currently a business owner based in Dublin.
